Amanda Smith Fowler describes her decorating style as fresh and forgiving, and believes that the pretty and the practical should seamlessly coexist. “A house should always tell the story of a well-lived and well-loved life, and the most interesting ones are never truly complete—they only grow more layered and meaningful with each passing year,” she says. The designer and magazine editor brings that philosophy to life in the home she shares with her family and a menagerie of pets.
Amanda brings 20 years of experience in decorating and lifestyle magazines to her design work, giving her a well-edited approach to cultivating and collecting. After studying interior design at The University of Alabama, she joined Southern Accents as market editor, where she scoured furniture, tabletop, and accessory markets for the best products and trends in high-end design. In 2018, she became style editor for FLOWER, where she continues to produce beautiful and compelling stories for its pages.
While Amanda’s aesthetic is rooted in tradition, she is never beholden to the expected and eschews the idea of “one style fits all.” She thrives on the thrill of the hunt, whether it’s for a weathered antique or a fresh point of view.
