“I’m giving Jane Austen’s Mr. Darcy a 21st-century update of his
library at Pemberley.”

— Barry Dixon

THE LIBRARY

“Bring classic elements forward in a modern way.” Rather than drapery treatments for a pair of oval windows, Barry designed metal mesh screens that diffuse light and punctuate the busts atop see-through pedestals. Barry designed the dahlia cowhide rug by Kyle Bunting and used fabrics by Vervain, Stroheim, and TylerGraphic.

“We explored the masculine side of floral inspiration with a larger scale and a woodsy palette.”

Barry enlisted library expert Kinsey Marable to curate a booklover’s dream collection that ranges from history and architecture to gardening and children’s classics.

FLORAL SPOTLIGHT

Inspired by the trees outside the library’s bay window, Barry wanted to bring elements of the woods inside. Keith Robinson of Gloriosa Design used a tall, clear glass vase to create a canopy of magnolia and other branches in the center of the room. A green goblet of bronze China mums creates a sunny nucleus on the table below.
