Highlights from the 2020 Kips Bay Palm Beach Show House

Flower magazine editors share their favorite rooms—all brimming with Palm Beach flair—and dreamy outdoor spaces from the celebrated annual show house

The third Florida iteration of the well-loved Kips Bay Decorators Show House in New York is open now through March 1, benefiting the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County. For the event, 19 design firms decorated a home owned by the interior designer Lars Bolander, filling the rooms with flair and creating beautiful outdoor living spaces. Here are a few of our favorites.

Master Bedroom: Alessandra Branca

For the master bedroom, the Branca team created a symphony in blue and white with many pieces and fabrics from Casa Branca, a new collection that will debut this spring. Our favorite is the hand-painted Portuguese-inspired wallpaper by Alessandra Branca for de Gournay. See sources. branca.com

“Le Jardin”: Light On White Design Studio

In a room named “Le Jardin,” the Miami-based Light on White designers put together a verdant-feeling allée using Benjamin Moore’s Spring Meadow and Alligator Alley paint against a custom rug that reads as terrazzo tile. The white furnishings and décor stand out against the green background, which includes hanging plants from Nearly Natural. See sources. lightonwhite.com

Master Bath/Closet: Studio B and Kirchhoff & Associates Architects

Interior designer Betsy Wentz of Studio B went for the unexpected in a bathroom, using a riot of color instead of the anticipated spa-like palette. A chaise lounge and window treatments feature bold Schumacher prints. The elegant soaking bathtub by Kohler sits in front of a mosaic tile wall, while the rest of the room is wallpapered in a muted Schumacher leopard print.

In the adjoining closet space, the color explosion continues with a mash up of bold prints and a wallpapered ceiling grounded by another muted animal print, but this time it’s on the floor with a Stark Carpet. See sources. studiobpittsburgh.comkirchhoffarchitects.com

Dining Pavilion: Colette van den Thillart

We love a versatile and beautiful outdoor room and Canadian designer Colette van den Thillart has designed an excellent one with a jaunty striped sofa in Christopher Farr Cloth, with accents of yellow in another stripe for a chair and a floral print for an ottoman custom-designed by van den Thillart along with the coffee table. The vine handwoven custom carpet echoes the natural vines wrapping the wooden column and beam. See sources. colettevandenthillart.com

Loggia of “The Palmetto Snug”: Lucas Studio, Inc.

For this dining/lounging space, West Hollywood designer Joe Lucas took some cues from the perennial greens of Palm Beach with vintage chairs dressed in a tropical-inspired print. Bamboo flatware and cane-wrapped glasses sit atop a faux bois dining table from Serena & Lily. On the other end of the loggia, a chic settee with abundant pillows and two rattan chairs form a stylish conversation nook. See sources. lucasstudioinc.com

“Cabana Hideaway”: Savage Interior Design

Ooh la la. Who would ever want to leave this drop-dead chic pool pavilion even to take a dip? Nashville designer Jonathan Savage shows off his style with a masculine edge and feminine details such as the curvy day beds and armchairs, both by Sutherland.

Stripes may be expected at the pool, but not in a khaki, white, and black colorway on a chair and for pillows on a Sutherland elevated sofa. Other punctuations of black and white include a coffee table and planters from McKinnon & Harris. See sources. savageinteriordesign.com

“Writers Retreat”: Kevin Isbell Interiors

In a room called a “Writer’s Retreat”, the possibilities include much more than writing! But the lively color pairings are sure to cause a burst of creativity. Los Angeles designer Kevin Isbell showcased bright green, orange, and an aubergine that unexpectedly play well together. Contemporary art harmonizes with the old-world sensibility of hand-painted Gracie Studio wallpaper. Fabrics and trims by Schumacher. See sources. kevinisbell.com

Study: Leta Austin Foster & Associates, Inc.

Flower editors always find things to love in rooms by Leta Austin Foster and this study is no exception. More neutral fabrics on furniture from her signature line, Pretty Fabulous Rooms, temper bold Nairobi wallpaper from China Seas. The botanical prints are not shrinking violets, but are over scaled, commanding attention. See sourcesletaaustinfoster.comprettyfabulousrooms.com

Garden: Nievera Williams Design, Inc.

Wow. Wow. Wow. The Palm Beach landscape design team has done it again. They call the garden a “Palmetto Paradise” designed in the Mughal Style of Persian architecture, which is intended to create a representation of an earthly utopia in which humans co-exist in perfect harmony with all elements of nature. Mission accomplished. See sources. nieverawilliams.com

Bedroom: Robin Gannon Interiors

One aspect that we love about show houses is seeing designers use their craft without the restraints of clients, not that anyone could object to this luxurious, very chic bedroom by Robin Gannon Interiors called “It’s a Jungle out There”. The “jungle” inside includes palm-print window treatments juxtaposed with a tartan-upholstered bed in Ralph Lauren Home along with a lime-green carpet. See sources. robingannoninteriors.com

The Loggia: Sherrill Canet Interiors, Ltd

This loggia is designed for lounging, entertaining, and fun of all types. The crisp white and green color scheme sings with vintage Palm Beach–style furnishings from local shop Devonshire of Palm Beach and custom pieces by the design firm. The ceiling is painted in a heavenly shade Fantasy Blue by Benjamin Moore. The floor covering is by Stark Carpet. See sources. sherrillcanet.com

Living Area: Suzanne Kasler Interiors

In this living space, Kasler’s understated chic style is in full bloom with a mix of salmon and white with unexpected pops of citron yellow on a chair in Pierre Frey fabric and a small piece of artwork. The captivating botanical wallpaper Sans Souci is by de Gournay. For the paint, she chose Benjamin Moore Custis Salmon and White Dove. The Lorraine sectional is by Suzanne Kasler for Hickory Chair.
