About Andrea

Andrea is an acclaimed botanical historian who is considered the expert on one of the world’s foremost scientific explorers and Naturalists, Alexander von Humboldt. Her best-selling biography, The Invention of Nature: Alexander von Humboldt’s New World, reveals the explorer’s extraordinary life and his importance to the sciences. The British-German historian Andrea spent a decade researching the life of Alexander von Humboldt—in archives, libraries, and private collections. She has also traveled the world, tracing his footsteps, and replicating his expeditions in an effort to experience his significance.

Andrea has enthralled audiences from the Royal Geographical Society and Royal Society in London to Monticello and the New York Public Library. Andrea will entertain us with stories of a remarkable scientist and intrepid explorer who journeyed through rainforests and climbed active volcanoes while explaining nature as a global force.
