Web Exclusive :: Greenville County Museum of Art’s Antique Show and Gala
Each year, the Gala for the Greenville County Museum of Art’s Antique Show combines southern heritage with modern style. Last year, the 2007 Antique Show and Gala stayed true to the ongoing tradition, as the sleek, modern lines of the museum façade provided sharp contrast to the antique-themed party indoors, and colorful floral arrangements popped atop black and white table settings.
For the Gala, Greenville’s most talented floral designers accented the museum gallery with breathtaking arrangements creatively tucked within and around antique pieces. Mounds of roses, hydrangeas, and gerber daisies sat in antique chairs and overflowed from dresser drawers. The vivid hues in the arrangements echoed the varied shades of fine art hanging on the gallery and complemented the equally colorful presentation of catered fare.
The Gala also served as a prelude to a weekend-long antiques show similarly comprised of heritage and style. Select dealers of antiques, fine art and Oriental rugs created an antiques showroom on the main floor of the museum, allowing visitors to both purchase antiques and explore the art galleries around them.
This year will mark the 23rd consecutive Antiques Show and Gala, the proceeds of which fund the acquisition of fine art for the Greenville Museum’s galleries. Susan Sully, a leading authority on Southern style, will lecture on “The Southern Cosmopolitan,” and Leonard Todd will be present to speak about his study of a 19th century, South Carolina slave artist who created intriguing ceramic art.
If you would like to learn more details about this year’s show or gala, which will be held the weekend of October 17th, call 864-271-7570.
